Trafalgar Square
Link to a lengthy Wikipedia article. Possibly TMI.
There is a whale of a lot of history associated with this place and it is crammed full of memorials of various kinds. It was named in the mid-1800s to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 when the British fleet led by Admiral Nelson defeated the French. Around the same time it was named a column was erected holding a statue of Lord Nelson. It's supposed to be quite famous. A church fronts the square called St Martin in the Fields. Just below the first floor is a restaurant and there are commemorative stone plaques in the floor. So there you have it. We ate lunch on top of a bunch of dead people.
